Colorado, USA
Woo-Hoo! Sunshine and warm (almost hot) weather! Tim rolled up after his short Saturday shift with a grin on his face, mostly because I was standing in the front yard with my riding boots on - ready to go. He wasn't the only one wearing a grin.
About fifteen minutes later we were rolling out of the neighborhood with nothing other than a supper run on our minds. The first thing we noticed was the haze hovering over the foothills and in the high country - smoke from the huge Arizona wildfire.
It took a 144 mile ride through the foothills, over a small mountain and around various lakes in the area to find BBQ. We're fairly certain every motorcycle, convertible, classic car, sail boat, motor boat, party boat and jet ski was in action today somewhere along the front range.
We eventually found ourselves in tiny Mead, CO at Brick House BBQ. We've ridden by before, but never when we were hungry (can you believe that?). Well, today we were hungry. We were not disappointed. Brick House BBQ was a pleasant surprise. It is small and quaint, very clean and cozy, decor is typical Colorado lodge style. There's a small patio behind the place that looked inviting. We were early so the supper crowd had yet to arrive. We were ushered upstairs to a small table near the back door where a few locals were enjoying a beer and conversation at the bar. A soccer game was on the big screen at the bar and classic pop music was playing over the speakers. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and fast. The menu offered a good selection of American food, salads, burgers and of course - BBQ including everything from ribs, dinner plates and sandwiches. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches, sweet potato fries and a side of onion rings. The portions were generous and the price about as reasonable as you can get these days. The sandwich was served with the sauce on the side. The sauce was sweet and tangy with just a little heat. Later, the waitress talked us into dessert which was a huge portion of chocolate cake for me and coconut cake for Tim. No, she didn't have to twist our arms. We agreed both selections were delicious but the coconut cake was the best of the two offerings. YUM!
Pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries - yum!
We took the loooonnnnggg way home and enjoyed every minute of it, rolling back into the neighborhood just before dark, fat and sassy and already thinking about tomorrow's ride.
