Dad rides over mile marker 82

It does not look like Mother Nature is going to cooperate on April 21st so we tagged along on a pre-82nd birthday ride with Dad to log over 82 windy s'miles! It is cool today as Spring mornings in Texas are so we rode out in jackets and hoodies. There is a promise of sun and warmth later but we are not counting on it as the winds have the flags standing straight out today.
It is Dad's birthday ride so it was Dad's call where we rode. We never really have a destination in mind but darn if his rowdy red ride didn't find it's way to a favorite breakfast and pie stop just over the river in Waurika Oklahoma.
JW's Travel Stop (truck stop with a cafe) is at the intersection of US 81 and US 70.
Our travels today took us along familiar roads and state highways in Oklahoma and Texas. We rode across the old river bridge thinking this may be one of the last times we cross it as a new bridge is under construction. The bluebonnets (Texas State Wildflower) are like a carpet of blue on the roadside. The countryside is greening up.
It is perhaps a coincidence that we traveled west on Hwy 82 on Dad's 82nd birthday ride. About Brown Road on Hwy 287 Dad pulled away from us for a bit. I reckon that's where he got a stretch in at 82 mph (legal speed limit is 75 mph).

Recycling an oldie... looks like Mother Nature might cooperate for a V-Day ride... woo-hoo! If not, there's a gun show in town and I guarantee I am not cooking today. So happy hug your sweetie day! Carry on! And if you get to ride - ride safe!

Celebrating #43 Today
The card we received in the mail from the Folks said this: Love is not for sissies. Love is not all music and moonlight and romance. Love, real love, takes work. It takes patience and courage and commitment. Real love - the kind that makes two people make a promise as big as "I do" - isn't easy, but if anything in life is worth the effort, it's real love...
What a great card - we could not agree more!
After 43 years and some together, we do not do a bunch of thinking and talking about love. We know what love is - it is not something you think about - it is not something you talk about - love is the breath of a life shared... love is something you do - something we do - every damn day.
I guess if we would add anything to the list of things love IS - we would add the s'miles we get from riding the Harley. Riding is a gift we give ourselves - it trumps cards and flowers and sissified stuff - romance is found on the side of a road we have just traveled for the first time or at the end of the day when we find ourselves in a town we decide to call home for the night. It is time shared and memories made in tandem. No, we do not talk about love overmuch. We talk about the places we've been and the things we've seen and the times we've had - together. And we talk about the places we want to go and the things we want to see and the times we look forward to - together - because whether it is loving, living, sharing or riding - we just cannot stop doing it - together - stay tuned.

Four years and fifty some odd thousand miles ago today

Spit-shined and ready to roll...
It was only supposed to be a test ride...
This is the day I learned that the one place the man I have been married to for over 40 years cannot be trusted - is a Harley-Davidson Dealership.
We put 107 honeymoon miles on the New Ride that day. We haven't stopped racking up the s'miles since. Hopefully we'll get a birthday ride in today.

Happy New Year!

As is our custom, we will stage a sit-in-by-the-fire to welcome the New Year 2014. We will allow Mother Nature's fickle and chilly temperament to dictate our activities for the time being. Resolutions are for procrastinators so we will likely pull out our matching Harley road planners and resolve to ride a few more new roads in the coming year.
The future is never certain but if the fates are kind and we have anything to do with it we will find a few more s'miles out there on the horizon. In the south we call that over yonder. We know where yonder is. It's thataway. Ha!
With that said, if you are checking in - Happy New Year! May you find peace, love, prosperity and wide open roads in your future. As always we wish you and yours the bright blessing of enduring freedom and send out heartfelt appreciation to all Veterans far and wide.
