The week and a great TGIF Ride

May 14, 2010
Fort Collins, CO

The week in review:

Monday, we took BB (Black Beauty) to Thunder Mountain for the 1000 mile maintenance. We got her home just as a bout of bad weather was moving in.

Tuesday and Wednesday, we had rain then snow, the annual tree-breaking snow. Normally, we get the white stuff a bit earlier than the second week of May. Spring snows are always heavy and wet. This one did quite a bit of damage.

Thursday, by early afternoon the streets had cleared. Tim left early and rode to work, taking the long way around. He even offered to return my library books on the way (opposite direction from work).

Friday, the morning was chilly but mostly clear. Our BTGTWR (Before Tim Goes To Work Ride) got us out of the house for a couple of hours about mid-day and down the road and back for about 65 miles. It was enough to clear our heads and put a smile on our faces. We have passed 1200 miles says Tim.

The day was brisk but not uncomfortable. We are greening up nicely here. A few days of sunshine and temps in the 70s would help get us through the door to Summer. Ol' Man Winter can rear his ornery head anytime in Colorado. Even the front range can see snow around Memorial Day, sometimes later. It can snow in the Rockies any time of year. We are hoping he'll move on and bother somebody else now. We are expecting storms this evening so it was no surprise to see the clouds building quickly as we ambled down country lanes past fields of hay and wheat and fences corraling frisky colts and calves. We passed two meadows filled with elk. The streams and creeks are running hard as the mountain melt off gets underway.

The forecast is looking good for the next few days and we are looking forward to it. Texas is getting rain I hear... lots of rain. That's gonna put a real damper on a couple of good rides down that way this weekend.
