The Ride Celebrates Birthday #3 with a Ride

April 28, 2013
Colorado USA

We are getting off to a slow start this year. Either we are under the weather or the weather is not cooperating.

Today we got lucky. It was a gorgeous day to ride so we lit out for a few miles to the east and finished off with a tour around the lakes. And we were not alone! I believe every motorcycle in northern Colorado was rolling today.

A great third birthday ride
Three years ago today we rolled up to Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson for a test ride on an Ultra. Before the day was out we had said so long to our beloved 2008 Heritage and rode away on the 2010 Ultra.

We just rolled over 43,000 S'Miles on the Ultra.

Today's ride = 131.7 miles

Ol' Man Winter is over-staying his welcome this year but we managed to squeak in a few miles (80.1) this afternoon under partly sunny skies.

Dad - 77th Birthday Ride 2013
77th +1 Birthday Ride

Texas -- Today Dad aka Ted aka Frosty is celebrating his 77th birthday on this earth and the rest of us are celebrating the fact that we have such a man as he in our lives.

As for me, I am a lucky girl to have the one man I would have chosen out of all the men in the world - to call DAD.

Dad does not like mushy stuff so I will let photos do the talkin'.

I will say I wish you the brightest blessings the day has to offer - may you have a day filled with sunshine, Nezzie ever faithful by your side, the company of few good friends and of course - cake! Happy Birthday Dad!

The following is a video slide show with music. It is an ongoing project. Every year I add a few more photos.

The mushy stuff... about as mushy as we get *** grins! ***

I am my father’s daughter…

As a little girl child I dreamed of the day I would grow up to be a man so I could do guy stuff with Dad. In early adolescence I suddenly and rather disappointingly realized that was not how things were going to work out at all. Who knew being a girl was going to cause so much trouble? Defiantly, I found pleasure in tom-boyish activities. As a teenage girl I railed and rebelled against patriarchal dictate. As a determined young woman I struggled to find my way in a progressive world that was not my father’s world. So often that world fell short of my expectations. As a middle aged woman I began the elusive inner quest of self-discovery -- who am I, what do I believe, where do I belong in the grand scheme of things? More often than not, life’s great quandaries were resolved with a return to the roots of my ethics and principles. Time after time, my path has led me home, at least in my heart. I realized my check and balance system is in my upbringing – the boundaries of which are marked by respect for Mom and Dad. Now, not quite old but with enough of the shine worn off of my former idealism I know without a doubt I am simply and unequivocally my father’s daughter. And, I am happily content to be so. What that means is: I have settled into my real self and embraced the idea that the apple did not fall so far from the tree after all. Gender has nothing to do with it. I can be who I am with all my hard convictions and go about my days without apology or nuance or affectation – just like Dad. In a chaotic, directionally disturbed world I am fortunate to have a symbol of true north in my life – My DAD.

Happy 77th Birthday Dad!

Some might want to rethink bringing a message of hate and discontent to little town Texas

April 19, 2013
Colorado USA

Texas -- Get ready to roll Texans! The WBC intends to spread their message of hate at funerals in tragedy-ravaged West, TX. The bottom-feeding porta-potty scum (pond scum is simply not low enough) known to me as Westboro Blaphemer Cult will likely face legions of outraged Texans on two to eighteen wheels in boots to high heels to sneakers when they slither across the border. For all their knowledge of the law I just have to say they [WBC] are about as dim-witted as they come. I cannot speak about how well their plan of action will work in Boston where they have also stated intent to spew hate in the wake of the marathon bombings but the outcome of past misadventures in the Lone Star State and the Sooner State have hardly qualified as success. Allow me a Maverick Moment here - my ol' Daddy used to say it is sure sign of ignorance when you repeat the same action over and over again expecting a different result.

Texans take care of their own - always have - always will. That ol sayin' - Don't Mess With Texas - yeah, it isn't really about litter - it isn't really a suggestion - I would consider it fair warning.

I read a comment a while back - in which at least one good citizen of Kansas (apparently speaking from first hand experience) has advised - if you are traveling to Texas or Oklahoma (especially in a nondescript vehicle like a white van with Kansas plates and especially where the WBC have published an intent to picket) be certain to make your allegiance known on your vehicle and possibly your person. He said you best be traveling with an anti-WBC bumper sticker or be certain you display your affiliation with the Patriot Guard Riders or Journey 4 Justice in a highly visible manner.

Borrowed this pic from Jimmy (a North Texas PGR Ride Captain) - Jimmy and PGR buddies braved inclement weather to ride escort for Medal of Honor Heroes on their way to the annual Medal of Honor event in Gainesville TX.

Click on the link below for some nice pics of a great event... it was cold and wet in Texas today.
